A surreal act unfolds as an Asian-American comedian battles her insecurities manifesting across her apartment before an open mic.
Crouching Comic is a short surrealist comedy written by Alberta Poon & Katie Nguyen. Thematically, the film focuses on the first-generation experience of identity, familial ties, and mental health. Too few asian women are featured as protagonists within modern storytelling, often being relegated to minor, peripheral roles. Crouching Comic emphasizes these underrepresented voices in both film and comedy, and was created by an all asian cast and crew. Not only is it important to represent Asian-Americans on screen, but in order to craft truly authentic stories, it’s paramount that the people behind the story represent the faces on screen. The film stars Katie Nguyen, two-time winner of Portland Mercury’s ‘Geniuses of Comedy' and WWeek's funniest person in Portland 2021.
